PERSONAL REFLECTION

Over the past 5 years, I feel that the Penn State AE program has provided me with a full education. I have had the ability to attain an engineering degree which promotes breadth education in addition to my area of focus, construction. Therefore, I feel comfortable entering the industry and collaborating with all types of project participants. I have also found that the AE course load has been very applicable to my internship experiences, allowing me to continue my education beyond the academic year. The AE Senior Thesis provided an opportunity for me to integrate my academic and industry knowledge in order to perform feasibility studies on a real life project, rounding out my undergraduate education. I attribute my comfort and ability to work with others to the AE program's emphasis on group projects. I have learned how to collaborate with others and persevere through differences. This, I believe, is the biggest takeaway from the AE program and will help myself and my fellow classmates excel in our future careers.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me along the journey. Thank you to the Penn State AE Staff and Faculty for helping me grow throughout my academic career. I would also like to thank the PACE industry members who have exposed me to various projects and research, keeping me connected to the construction industry during the academic year. Thank you to James G. Davis Construction and all of the mentors I have gained within the company; their support and continuing education makes me excited to begin my career in construction. Finally, I would like to thank my friends and family for always encouraging me to do my best - without them, I would not be where I am today!

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) site was an effective tool to display students' work and progress throughout the school year.  This site not only provided a platform to present senior thesis projects but also as sustainable effort that creates a record of projects over several years.
